Illinois State Police Urge Motorists to Move Over

ILLINOIS (WIFR) – Illinois State Police District 16 Commanders are asking motorists to remember to move over when you see an stationary patrol car.

The “Move Over Law,” also known as “Scott’s Law,” mandates that upon approaching a stationary emergency vehicle, displaying flashing lights, a person who is driving an approaching vehicle shall yield the right-of-way by making a lane change if it is safe to do so. If not, reduce speed and proceed with caution.

Penalties for failing to yield can include up to $10,000 and a 2-year suspension of driving privileges.
