Support for Referendum

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Tomorrow night we'll know where you stand on District 205's bond referendum, but in the meantime, another local group announced its support for the measure.

Rockford Minister's Fellowship is endorsing the Better Schools Brighter Future campaign and the referendum. The question will ask voters to allow the district to take out $139 million in bonds to help pay for building upgrades. The average school building in District 205 is nearly 60 years old, many with original features.

"Many of our schools, our facilities are in need of repair but not only major repairs but also many of our schools need to be upgraded as it relates to modern technology,” said Pastor Herbert Johnson, President of Rockford Minister’s Fellowship.

If the referendum is approved, the money will help pay for the first phase of the district's 10-year facilities plan.
