CHICAGO (AP) -- The remnants of Hurricane Sandy have forced the cancellation of more than 500 flights at Chicago airports.
The Chicago Department of Aviation reports Tuesday afternoon that airlines have canceled nearly 500 flights to and from the East Coast at O'Hare International Airport. Delays at O'Hare were up to 90 minutes because of high winds.
At Midway International Airport more than 75 flights were canceled and delays were average 30 minutes.
Sandy causes 'minor disruptions' in Chicago
CHICAGO (AP) -- Chicago emergency officials say the city had only "minor disruptions" from the remnants of what was once Hurricane Sandy.
Emergency officials said Tuesday that Chicago saw strong winds and tall waves in Lake Michigan. Portions of the bicycle path along Lake Shore Drive remained closed Tuesday. A lakeshore flood warning remained in effect until 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Officials say the city has responded to about two dozen service calls for downed trees or branches. They say Chicago police were not called to rescue anyone along Lake Michigan because of weather conditions. Officials warned residents to stay away from the lake. Winds were forecast to reach 50 to 60 mph, with lake waves exceeding 24 feet.
Outdoor concessions and the Ferris wheel on Navy Pier were closed Tuesday.
