Tribune: Will fight ex-Peterson lawyer's lawsuit

Reporter: The AP

CHICAGO (AP) -- The Chicago Tribune says it'll fight a defamation lawsuit filed against it and others by Drew Peterson's former lead attorney.

The lawsuit filed this week by Joel Brodsky stems from a public feud between him and an attorney still on the suburban Chicago police officer's legal team.

The two have argued for months about blame for Peterson's conviction for killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

Brodsky's lawsuit names the attorney, as well as the Tribune and AOL's Patch news website. Brodsky accuses them of disseminating his bitter rival's allegedly falsehoods without adequate fact checking.

In a Thursday statement, Tribune Editor Gerould Kern says the newspaper stands by its reporting. He adds the newspaper, in his words, intends "to defend this suit vigorously."

Patch says it doesn't comment on pending litigation.
