BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- The City of Murals is looking to bring new life to its historic downtown district.

Members of the community were able to learn about the latest downtown revitalization project. They include preserving some of the city's historic buildings. They discussed the benefits of putting Downtown Belvidere on the National Register Listing and ways to update the warehouse district. One downtown property owner says something needs to be done to bring more people to the area.

"We are very much in need of downtown eateries, restaurants, cafe, bar type of operation where we can increase the number of people that come in to our downtown. We are really in dyer need for our businesses to be supported that way."

Once the city submits its plans, it will take about four months before finding out what location qualifies for the national register listing.
