UPDATE: DIXON POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE

DIXON (WIFR) -- The Dixon Police Department announces a second arrest stemming from the armed robbery of the Cash for Gold store on December 6th. Alyssa B. Kirby of 750 East Mix Lane in Oregon, Illinois was taken into custody on charges of Aggravated Robbery by the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department. Bond on the charge has been set in the amount of $50,000.00. Alyssa Kirby is the wife of William J. Kirby, who was also charged with Aggravated Robbery on Monday, December 12th. The bond on William Kirby’s charge was set in the amount of $250,000.00. William Kirby is currently in the Ogle County Jail as he was taken into custody by the Oregon Police Department at approximately 3:00 p.m. on the date of the incident (December 6th). Kirby was charged with Residential Burglary in Ogle County as a result of their investigation.

The armed robbery at the Cash for Gold store, located at 1112 South Galena Avenue, occurred on Tuesday, December 6th at approximately 2:15 p.m. At that time, a lone gunman entered the business and demanded money. He showed the clerk a pistol, and subsequently took an undisclosed amount of cash from the business. The subject then fled southbound initially from the scene. The subject was described as wearing a brown or light tan jacket with a hood and he was also wearing a black ski mask and gloves. The physical description was that of a white or Hispanic male being about 5’ 7” and having a slim build. A K-9 unit from the Dixon Police Department along with a second K-9 unit from the Mount Carroll Police Department began to track the suspect in an easterly direction from the scene.

The Department credits the arrest due to a tip received from the Oregon Police Department as they identified William Kirby as a person of interest that should be looked into. As a result of the investigation into William Kirby, officers were able to recover property that was taken during the armed robbery. The weapon that was used in the incident was confirmed to be a pellet gun that had been purchased earlier in the day at a local business. Evidence that was recovered at the scene had led officers to believe that the weapon used during the incident was a pellet gun. Through the investigation, Alyssa Kirby was found to have been an accomplice in the armed robbery with William Kirby.

Anyone with further information concerning the investigation is asked to call the Dixon Police Department at 288-4411 or Ogle-Lee Crimestoppers at 1-888-CAUGHT U (1-888-228-4488). Callers do not have to leave their names and are eligible for rewards of up to $1000.00 with information leading to an arrest.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
