OREGON (WIFR) -- A Friday morning fire leaves an Oregon family without a home for at least a month, but thanks to some quick work by a pint sized protector, this family of five remains a family of five.

Molly Riffle is not to old to play in the snow but she's also not too young to save lives. On Friday morning the seven year old got a taste of what it's like to be called a hero.

"I don't think we would've made it out if she hadn't woken us up," Jenny Riffle, Molly's Mom, said.

Jenny and Mike Riffle were sound asleep in their Oregon home when their middle child woke them up in the early morning hours.

Jenny's first thought was, "Why are you waking me up at four in the morning," Jenny said, that was until Jenny found out what Molly had to say.."I just smelled smoke and woke up mom... it was stinky smoke."

Jenny and Mike got Molly's big sister Macie and little brother Warren out of the house before the fire in the fireplace spread throughout the home.

"Fireplaces are great, they're lovely but boy when something goes wrong, they go wrong," Jenny said.

The smoke damage is bad enought that the Riffle's home is unliveable for at least a month.

"It's a nightmare and to not know where we're going to go or what we're going to do is pretty scarry," Jenny said.

But Molly says she was never scared during her courageous night.

"Cause I knew mom would protect me from the fire," Molly said.

The Riffles credit the Oregon School District for helping Molly be prepared for this dangerous situation.

"If you've got fire on your sleeve, stop drop and roll," Molly said.

The Riffles aren't quite sure where they will be living the next month.

"We'll probably be alright, we'll make it we're a strong family," Jenny said.

They're a complete family thanks to the quick work of one young girl.

The family has been renting the home since November. The Rock River Valley Red Cross has put the Riffle's up in a hotel from last Friday night until Tuesday.
