DIXON, Ill. (AP) -- Veterans Memorial Park officials want the stories of Illinois veterans to come alive in a new museum geared toward highlighting the service of local soldiers.
Sauk Valley Media reports (http://bit.ly/VqamYr ) that the paperwork has been filed to build a museum at the north end of Veterans Memorial Park in Dixon.
Park officials say the museum will feature mostly local military items donated by family members of area veterans.
The tentative plan calls for a $1 million facility with a parking lot and possibly an auditorium for presentations.
Park officials say they will not ask for local tax money. They plan to rely heavily on grants.
A groundbreaking is planned for 2014.
