ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A major shift in Rockford’s population could change what aldermen represent us.
The 2010 U.S. Census data revealed that much of Rockford’s population in the southwest and downtown has moved, leaving wards in those areas with a major difference in residents as opposed to the city's east side. Rockford's redistricting sub-committee will reveal a new ward map to balance the population shift at Monday’s city council meeting where it could receive final approval from aldermen.
"We try to leave the politics out of it and simply adjust the wards as fairly as we can so everyone is treated fairly. While it is a highly political thing, I've seen this city council over a number of years try to keep politics out of it and simply make it the way it needs to be”, says Alderman Frank Beach.
If adopted, the new boundaries would take effect in 2013
