ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The fight against breast cancer got a big boost on Friday, February 14, Valentine's Day, during a press conference and community lunch at Riverside Community Bank.
The community event celebrated the partnership between Riverside Community Bank’s Pink Ribbon Debit Card and Crusader Community Health. Riverside Community Bank’s Pink Ribbon Debit Card program, which began in May of 2012, has helped raise thousands of dollars locally towards the fight against breast cancer at Crusader Community Health. A check from Riverside Community Bank to Crusader Community Health was presented during the press conference.
The Pink Ribbon Debit Card is free and available with all Riverside Community Bank personal checking accounts. Each time a customer swipes their card to make a purchase, the bank makes a 2.5 cent contribution to Crusader Community Health's breast cancer efforts. Since the launch last year, 299,575 community members “took swipes against breast cancer” for a total of $7,489.37.
Crusader Community Health will use the donated money to help women pay for breast cancer screenings who otherwise couldn’t afford them. Since early detection is vital in the fight against cancer, mammograms are extremely important to women who may be at risk for breast cancer.
