ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A name change is on the way for the ballpark that fans have known as Road Ranger Stadium for the last five years.

Rockford Riverhawks management was notified this last week that Road Ranger will not be renewing their sponsorship deal to keep the road ranger name on the stadium. The Stateline gasoline company says that an increase in the contract price caused them to walk away.

Road Ranger obtained naming rights in 2007, a year after the park opened. Riverhawks General Manager Brad Sholes says despite the sponsorship uncertainty, the team is remaining confident.

Sholes says, "Unfortunately we couldn't work things out with road ranger but we feel there will be another one that will step up to the plate. You know hopefully, you road ranger couldn't agree to the naming rights, but that's not to say that they won't be a sponsor in the future.”

Sholes says that Riverhawks owner Bryan Wickline has been in contact with companies regarding naming rights. The companies will remain private until a deal is reached.
