Holiday Shopping Numbers Higher Than Anticipated

CHERRY VALLEY (WIFR) -- We're told local stores were extremely busy on Saturday. This is the last full shopping weekend before Christmas.

Cherryvale was pretty busy with last minute shoppers Saturday afternoon. You may remember some stores were closed last night because of a power outage that affected the north-side of the mall.

The National Retail Federation is expecting holiday sales to be even higher this season than originally anticipated.

Rochelle resident Brad Kersten says, "[My family] came up last night to do some shopping but with the electricity out at JC Penney we decided to come back today. I figure we would brave it with all the extra people here on Saturdays"

Despite the increase in shopping, the National Retail Federation says sales are still expected to be lower this holiday season compared to last.
