Business Owners React to 173 Construction

MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR)-- One of the stateline's busiest shopping destinations will soon see road closures, adding to what many drivers already consider the 173 headache.

As traffic on 173 comes to a screeching halt, Taylor Street Pizza employees say construction delays are bringing in extra dough.

" We have seen an increase in sales, mainly from construction workers driving by and getting stuck in traffic and seeing ready pizza" says the restaurant’s Manager.

Traffic is expected to stay congested until late fall as crews transform the two-lane highway into four lanes. Some restaurant owners say while they appreciate the extra advertising however getting to them has become a challenge.

Onyx bar and Grill manager Jeff Morrison says sales have dipped 15 percent since the orange cones went up. He says customers are frustrated with the wait.

Perhaps Onyx Bar's Jeff Morrison should have taken that into account when they opened not all that long ago. This isn't a news flash that the construction was going to happen. You can't have it both ways. We either get new roads the way they should be and live with head ache, or u live with the old congested road that was previously there and have it continue to look and act like mediocre half thought out retail area. Suck it up 173 business owners......and all your 1st world problems.

Brian and Ryan apparently you two must be regulars at Cronie's. Both my friends and I have gone to Cronies more than once and the staff just ignores you unless you are regulars. I will take a bar where I can get a drink and deal with the traffic or better yet I will go to one of the other many establishments in the area however I will never go back to Cronies after waiting 20 minutes for a drink.
