FREEPORT (WIFR) -- From Boy Scout to Eagle Scout, a member of Freeport’s Troop 4 continued his mission to contribute to one of the Pretzel City's biggest attractions Friday night.

Alex Marck has raised more than 30-thousand dollars to build a picnic pavilion at Freeport’s Little Cubs Field for his eagle scout project. An auction was held tonight to help bring in the last $7,000 he needs for construction to start.

Marck says the project idea came to him after seeing people standing in the rain with nowhere to go at the field. And hopes it will be appreciated by everyone who comes to visit the Wrigley replica.

"I think I'll breathe a sigh of relief when it's all over but I'm excited for the whole process. It's been 2 years in the works so far and I've enjoyed every minute of it, and the great people this can bring out, all the help I've had, the support from my school, construction and just the whole community. Seems like they've all just come together to help this for the greater good,” says Marck.

Construction on the pavilion will begin in March or April. To donate to Marck’s project, visit
