Body Found in Local River

UPDATE: We now know the name and cause of death of the Belvidere man found dead in the Kishwaukee River over the weekend.

The Boone County Coroner says 48-year-old Ray Wopinski of Belvidere drowned.

Police say they do not suspect foul play.

Wopiniski’s body was found floating near the state street bridge in Belvidere on Sunday.


BELVIDERE (WIFR)-- Boone County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a possible drowning in the Kishwaukee River.

Information is limited right now however we do know the body was found at around three Sunday inside Doty Park near the Dairy Ripple in Belvidere.

Investigators tell us the victim is a white male in his mid 40's. The Boone County Coroner is trying to determine how the man died. It's still unclear if he drowned however his body was found in the water.
