BELVIDERE (WIFR)-- A major bombshell at tonight's Belivdere State of the City Address. Mayor Fred Brereton started his speech by announcing after 15 years of service he will not seek re-election.
The News comes after Chrysler's recent announcement to bring more than 18-hundred jobs to the Belvidere plant.. Mayor Brereton says it's best to leave on a high note.
"It was like winning the super bowl with the announcement of Chrysler and you often see people bow out when they are on top.I take this as a good time to exit.." he said
Brereton will step down when his term ends next year. He says he will " not count the final days but will make the days count"..
Brereton has been the city leader for more than 15 years and says although Chrysler has brought great news to the community, it doesn't mean the economic recovery is over just yet.. he says now that Belvidere is in the spotlight it's time to shine.
