Jillan Chapin never thought she'd be trying to keep something other than herself " cool" this summer. The grocery store employee has been working with a crew all morning trying to salvage frozen foods after an intense storm cut off power to the store.. and most of Ogle county.
"We are trying to get all the produce and everything out of the coolers just so it doesn't get bad and we are trying to salvage and save as much stuff as we possibly can" says Jillian Chapin
Pizzas, ice cream, pies. They're all being moved into a giant cooler until the lights go back on in Ogle county. .. but without knowing when that time will come.. employees say they feel "left in the dark"...
" No one knows!.. they say up to two days but thats just a rumor" says Chapin
Employees have been filling up grocery carts in a pitch black store..we even used the light on our camera to help them avoid slipping on puddles left by melting coolers.
"There are puddles where things are starting to defrost like the freezers and it's slippery and you got to be careful"....
and cooling trucks won't be leaving the stores parking lot anytime soon... chapin says once the power is back on.. it's back to work again.
