Illinois Comptroller Dan Hynes is in Winnebago County tonight calling on the Governor to release funds promised to 4-H programs. Governor Blagojevich recently transfered the funds to offset budget shortfalls. Hynes claims that these threatened program cuts will mean job and program cuts, not to mention office closures across the state. He also says that this is clearly a case of misplaced priorites. "If we need to make some adjustments to our budget, then bring the legislature together, go through the whole budget and figure out where the priorities are, where the cuts need to be made, but he's singled out one program out of nowhere and cut it." The governor's office says that fund transers in Illinois are not uncommon... they say Hynes has yet to come up with a more effective way to make up the budget shortfalls.
