It began at around 7:30 Saturday night...that's when Rockford Police Officers arrived at a westside neighborhood. Witnesses say a group of teenagers shot guns into the air, right out in the open. When investigators arrived, the group fled on foot. Two of the four spotted were caught. Police say they were forced to take defensive measures when one teen allegedly refused to take his hand off a gun in his belt...the scuffle left the suspect with a broken jaw. Neighbors say the use of force was unnecessary. Police say they recovered two stolen and loaded guns from the injured teen.

I was not surprised that an adult got on TV and claimed that the police used too much force. I was surprised that the news would use her lame unthoughtful comment. Too much force... noway. The story would have likely had a different outcome if the police had not done their job. I agree he is lucky to have escaped his stupidity with his life. I would hope the police would repeat their efforts if there is a gunman on my block.

I am getting tired of interviews of bystanders and parents that make it sound like the police are the bad guys. If that would have been my son, he would have gotten more than a broken jaw when I got him home. The parents are just as guilty for letting their children run the streets and then blaming everyone else. Why don't you get responsible-

My gosh, they didn't have to break his jaw. Just ask him real nice like to put the gun(s) down. Now he'll gets three meals, a warm bed, and a shower everyday, for free. I guess a broken jaw is a good trade off.

Well next time just let the Police shot him like they could have. He had his hand on a *GUN* but breaking his jaw was to extreme. Come on people. Why did the *teenager(s)* have a gun in the first place. You cannot buy a hand gun until 21. Thank You too all the Police Officers who have to put up with this. Then get question why they broke his jaw instead of SHOOTING him. God Bless

The teen got lucky with a broken jaw. The guns were loaded. Officer's didn't know that until they had him in custody & the guns were taken away from him. I say, he's lucky they didn't shoot him. For all of the shots that have been fired over here lately, how would officers have known that he wasn't the one who just shot the gun. I think the bystanders were causing part of the problem. Just remember, "a bullet doesn't have a name on it". It can strike anyone including innocent bystanders. My other question is, where did these teens get the guns. Isn't it illegal for a teen to purchase a gun. Parents, where are your guns & why does your teen have one? Answer me that.

Why didn't they taser him? Now the county has to pick up the medical bills.

regarless to what the people say about those kids with the guns those police have to protect themselves.

Maybe they should have just shot him. He would not give up a gun. He was breaking the law. Maybe if he had shot at one of the witnesses it would have been necessary force. But maybe some of the witnesses were part of the group shooting the guns. He was one of a group that were breaking the law.
