Roscoe Police Shoots Dog

"Is that your dog that's dead? I ran over to check and it was my dog."

As he does everyday..Bill Sullivan walks to the kennel of his son's dog...but for the first time in three years, it's empty.

"I heard the door slam and my son was histrical i could barely understand and when I could he said 'They killed my dog, they killed my dog."

It happened Saturday morning. That's when the Sulilvan's dog Buddy ..escaped from his leash ...jumped over the families 4 foot fence.. and entered the grounds of Ledges.. a horse jumping park that backs up to their home. 10 year old Covan chased after him, but he was too late. A Roscoe police officer found buddy first and shot him... The family was shocked.

"I walked up to the officer and I said you killed my dog? You killed my dog? And he said, 'I didn't know if he was dangerous or not.'"

The family feels it was an act of cruelity. Roscoe police say the officer acted in self defense. Police have no proof of past violent behavior.

Police officer was totally in the wrong. He could have waited and hesitated instead of first shooting. Didn't he or shouldn't he be trained to realised the dog was probably just as scared as he was.

You people have no clue, don't you listen to what was said...go the register star site and look at their story that one seems more fair to both parties. This story was nonsense...oh and by the way pepper spray usually only antognizes mad/upset dogs more.

I think the reporter did a good job writing this story. Its he police officer we should be mad at because he was to much of a wimp to handle a dog with pepper spray... the dog might have just wanted to be pet and the wimpy officer shot it. Good job reporter, its not your fault that the dog got killed, everyone else get a life.

I agree Roscoe police are out of control. Not only do they shoot an innocent dog but like to throw their weight around by bulling people around. Dont get me wrong I respect the law but when the law doesnt respect me and my rigths then I have a problem, which by the way has happened with Roscoes fineist. Including the Sergent.

What was a Roscoe cop doing at the Ledges when that is not in their jurisdiction. The Ledges is in Winnebago County. The County Sheriff needs to respond , Roscoe PD has

Nice job writing this one up. You make it seem as if the police officer just walked up to a sleeping dog and shot it. I doubt that's what happened. I'd be interested in the whole story. What kind of dog was Buddy. What was Buddy doing at the moment he was shot? What was Buddy doing that caused the police to be called in the first place? Why the slanted it just to make the police seem like bad people? Curious.

What kind of dog? What reason did the officer have to believe this dog was vicious? Unbelievably cruel!

Shows how bored the Roscoe Police are. Can't find real criminals so they shoot dogs.

It seems you news people have not gotten the entire story. I find it hard to believe the Police just went out and shot a dog for no reason. Let's get some real reporting done people, show both sides. I have never known any officer to want to just go out and shoot a dog for no reason. Go back to college and figure out how to write a story.
