After a Friday night football game in Janesville, a young couple was held at knife point, robbed, and then the 14 year old girl was raped. Janesville Police say Kenneth Jarrett is the only suspect in the rape. The former suspect Antonio Polland has been freed with no charges pending.
Police say evidence found at the scene, and a phone call from Jarrett to a rock valley corrections resident led them to Jarrett’s father’s apartment. Jarrett's neighbor Jesse Leavy says he never had a problem with him and never saw and signs of violence.
But Jarrett and his father were in less than a good mood when police came to their door Monday night.
“I heard the officer say Kenny put the knife down, and I think he was worried about him harming himself with the knife,” says a neighbor Linda Nelson.
Kenneth Jarrett also threatened to blow up the house and his father was arrested for obstruction of justice. After an hour Jarrett surrendered peacefully. More incriminating evidence was found inside the apartment.
The rape victim had burs imbedded in her clothing from the area around Monterey Park, when police searched Jarrett’s place they found the same burs in one of his shirts, along with possible blood stains.
“This clearly in addition to the circumstantial evidence that’s been collected this clearly will be a DNA case as well,” says Police Chief Niel Mahan.
Until the results come back, Kenneth Jarrett will be held on a probation violation stemming from a previous battery charge.
