Gov. Says No-No to Keno

Updated: 01/24/2006 - SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Governor Rod Blagojevich says he'll take keno off the negotiating table if it means state lawmakers will support his road and school construction plan. The governor sent a letter to House Minority Leader Tom Cross today saying keno has become an excuse for lawmakers to oppose the proposal he calls a critical jobs-creation bill. Blagojevich says he's willing to forgo the keno idea as long as legislators work to find the money needed for the three-point-two (b) billion dollar construction plan he proposed two weeks ago. Blagojevich had proposed legalizing the video poker-meets-bingo game to pay for 500 (m) million in new school construction projects. But the idea has went over poorly with lawmakers who say they fear keno will create additional societal and financial problems.
