CHICAGO (AP) -- The Illinois Tollway is offering assistance to drivers as it gets colder this week.

The "Zero Weather Road Patrols" will be out during the week when temperatures or wind chills fall below zero. The patrols will be on the lookout for drivers whose cars stop working.

If your vehicle breaks down while traveling on the highway drivers should stay in the car and call motorist assistance at (asterisk)999, Illinois Tollway dispatch or Illinois State Police.

Make sure to keep cellphones charged, tires properly inflated and gas tanks at least half full in winter weather. It is also a good idea to keep a cold weather safety kit in the car that includes gloves, boots, blankets, water and a flashlight.
