Woman's Body Recovered from Rock River

LEE COUNTY (WIFR) -- The body of a woman was found in the Rock River after police received a report of a missing person and found a submerged vehicle.

Just before 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, the Lee County Sheriff's Department received a missing persons report for 56-year-old Melva Meridith of Dixon. Meridith had last been seen driving her 2002 Pontiac Grand Am around 9:00 a.m. and hadn't been heard from since.

Around 7:30 p.m. police received a report that a vehicle had been found in the Rock River, near the Rock River Estates boat launch. The car was recovered but found no one inside the vehicle.

The Dixon Rural Fire Department continued to look for the occupant of the car and found the body of a woman, later identified as Meridith.

Police are investigating the case.
