WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) -- Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announced that on Friday, June 21, 2013 44-year-old Latannya Latin was found guilty of charges of Robbery and Aggravated Battery after a bench trial.
On October 4, 2012, the Latin and another suspect approached the victim at the Transportation Department of Rockford Public Schools. The victim worked there as a school bus driver and was on her way to work. The defendant and the other suspect asked the victim for directions. After the victim provided directions, Latin grabbed her arm and knocked her to the ground and fled the scene with the victim’s purse. Latin admitted to Rockford police that she took the victim’s purse and used her checks and credit card later that day.
Robbery is a Class 2 Felony with a sentencing range of 3-7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Aggravated Battery is a Class 3 Felony with a sentencing range of 2-10 years (extended term for Class 3) in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
The defendant will be sentenced as a Class X offender for Robbery based upon her prior record.
Sentencing has been set for August 9, 2013.
