UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A 27-year-old Rockford woman was found dead in her home this morning on Belden drive just across the street from Belden Park.

Police aren't releasing the woman's name yet and they hesitate to call it a murder before the coroner has a chance to do an autopsy but they say the circumstances are suspicious and a person of interest in the case is being interviewed right now, but nobody is in custody.

Police say a man who lived with the woman called 9-1-1 and reported she was unconscious just after five this morning. Initial reports on the police scanner suggest she may have been beaten up by a group of women but police won't confirm. Neighbors say officers have been asking whether anyone overheard a commotion in the park Tuesday night that could be related.

"Me and my son play in the park here and I walk here about 6:40 in the morning and sometimes I see her sitting on the porch, but we have never seen any commotion over there,” said Mona Barrett, a neighbor of the victim.

Neighbors say the woman lived at the residence with her boyfriend and she had a small child. Police won't confirm those details yet. A search warrant was just issued, though and police are searching the home where the body was found for clues.

Police aren't saying whether or not the person who called the tip in is a suspect, however he certainly has been questioned.
