MADISON - Tony D. Taylor, 36, of Delavan, Wis. was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to two years in federal prison for robbing the Walgreens Pharmacy at 2931 South Fish Hatchery Road, Madison, on January 10, 2013. Taylor pleaded guilty to this charge on July 23, 2013. Taylor also robbed eight other Dane County pharmacies between January 10, 2013 and March 29, 2013. These robberies were considered by Judge Conley at the sentencing. Taylor was also ordered to pay restitution of $18,754.81 to the victim pharmacies.
Taylor committed the robberies to sustain his addiction to oxycodone. He was finally apprehended on April 9, 2013, after a pharmacy store employee in DeForest recognized the defendant from a store alert and contacted police while he was still in the store.
United States Attorney John W. Vaudreuil praised the efforts of all the law enforcement agents involved in case, who worked tirelessly to identify and apprehend Taylor.
The charges against Taylor were the result of an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the DeForest, Waunakee, Monona, Madison, Verona, McFarland, Janesville and Beloit Police Departments. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rita M. Rumbelow.
