Winter Wonderland Opens in Davis Park

'Tis the season for holiday music and skating in the park. The BMO Harris Bank's Winter Wonderland opened for a third season tonight in Davis Dark, and for the first time, admission is free all season long.

"It's just a fun experience, to get out, go skating," said Amy McIntyre of the Rockford Park District. "It's a little bit of difference, since it is synthetic ice, it isn't a real ice rink But it is just for the experience and just being downtown enjoying the holiday season."

Parents came with bundled up children to glide along the one of a kind ice rink.

"You know it's a great opportunity for families to come together, so I'm looking forward to it," said Christian Solares, who came with his son and daughter.

Solares said he feels the free admission gives more families a chance to enjoy the holiday season.

"I think it opens opportunity for a lot of other people," he said. "And you know I'm glad to know it's free and I think it's going to help a lot of people who are looking for things to do in the area."

With the weather starting to feel like winter, the Rockford Park District expects it to be a successful season full of skating.
