Winnebago County To Install Weather Cameras

ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) -- The Winnebago County sheriff wants to install four weather surveillance cameras.

The Rockford Register Star reports the cameras would go on top tornado sirens and cell towers in the western part of the county. Sheriff Dick Meyers says "the more eyes in the sky" from different areas, the better.

Feeds from the cameras would be accessible to deputies via a live feed. The cameras will cost less than $2,000 apiece. The sheriff's office hopes to have them installed by spring.
