Winnebago County Sheriff Candidates Speak at Forum

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- With less than one month to go before the primary election, Winnebago County Sheriff candidates are jockeying for position.

They had a platform Saturday morning to share all of their ideas at the Rockford Tea Party Election Forum inside the Rockford Public Library.

Glenn Heidenreich, Randal Olson, Bob Redmond, Frank Pobjecky, Gary Caruana, and Jeffrey Schroeder were all in attendance, however, Bob Springer was unable to take part.

The contenders answered questions from the audience including some hot button issues such as gun control, which is just one of many topics the crowd is concerned about heading into March.

"The new sheriff has to have integrity, morals and be ethically sound," said James Kidd. "We can't have a corrupt sheriff. We need someone that's going to be a leader, someone that's going to work with the kids, someone that's going to implement drug rehabilitation with job employment hand in hand. You just can't be a bully."

The next chance to listen to all of the candidates will be March 2nd at Christ United Methodist Church.
