WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) – The Winnebago County republican chairman has apologized for a controversial entry in his latest newsletter that has been picked up by national media.

Jim Thompson ended his most recent bulletin sent out on Monday with a picture of the offspring of a donkey and a zebra or “zonkey” and wrote “if we can teach him to read a teleprompter we will have two living creatures the media fawns over that’s half black, half white, and all a**.”

National media including the liberal Talking Points website and the Washington Post picked up the story.

Today, Thompson declined our request for an interview. He did send an apology to Talkingpoints.com. Thompson wrote that he sincerely apologizes to anyone who was offended and regrets putting it in the newsletter. He also says that in the future, it most certainly will not happen again.
