WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) -- Winnebago County has been recognized as one of six gold status recipients of the newly established "Illinois Healthy Worksite Designation" by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
63 organizations participated in the initial recognition consideration and 32 employers qualified to receive the award. Six of the 32 state-wide recipients were awarded gold status.
The Illinois Healthy Worksite Designation was created to engage employers throughout the state in worksite wellness best practices. The criteria includes: Promoting and supporting healthy nutrition at work; Providing and encouraging opportunities for physical activities at work; having a 12 month Health and Wellness Calendar and an ongoing communication plan to promote on going health and well-being; Demonstrating a commitment to employee health and well-being in the organization’s mission statement, goals, and operations; Developing lifestyle and disease management strategies and annually measuring their success.
Winnebago County worked with the Health Department spending numerous hours in completing the application and compiling the supporting evidence to be considered for this recognition. Many items that have been implemented by Winnebago County played a large role in receiving the award recognition. Winnebago County has implemented an Employee Wellness Clinic; Disease Case Management Program; Several Group Health Insurance Wellness Options; an ongoing Wellness Program with Numerous Educational Wellness Opportunities; Weight Watchers Program; and currently working on adding physical fitness incentives and more holistic medical options such as an on-site Chiropractic service.
