ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- It was no ordinary day at the Chicago/Rockford International Airport as the 25th Annual Colling's Foundation Wings of Freedom Tour brought in its unique display of aircraft.
In honor of WWII veterans, the event conducts a nationwide tour that covers one hundred and 10 cities throughout 35 states. It features a WWII vintage Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, a consolidated B-240 Liberator and a North American P-51 Mustang. The aircraft's pilots are volunteers and Tim Ruhl, B-17 Pilot, says its a great experience.
"Here it is that many years later and you're still flying the same air plane they flew. And every-time we get in it we still smile at each other because its just wonderful," Ruhl said.
The planes will be on display until noon Friday at the Rockford Airport.
