ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Another long awaited construction project in Rockford. The re-modeling of West State Street is underway and is already posing challenges for drivers and businesses along that stretch of road.
Road closed and detour signs are posted but business owners in West State Square say there isn't any signage directing traffic to their shops. Several stores in the strip mall will remain open during the road work and expect to see a drop in business. That's why owners hope to get some detour signs posted so customers can drive along a safe route to run their errands.
Glenn Greenberg, President of Shopstead Business Assn.,
"There will be business lost from the closing of west state but I think we would also make that business loss up after the new road gets there, They were very cooperative and worked with us in November so I think the city will provide the directions for customers to get to their businesses."
The Shopstead business owners will meet later this month to discuss their plan of action during this prolonged construction project.
