UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WIFR) – We could have a new driver’s license facility as soon as April 1st. Alderwoman Ann Thompson Kelley tells us that’s the Secretary of State’s new goal. Workers are making progress on the old Gray’s IGA on Auburn Street. The Facility was supposed to open sometime in March.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford's west side is still without a driver's licenses center after the old branch on Central and Auburn Street closed last July, but that could soon change.

We've been checking with the Secretary of State's Office and all they would say is that they plan to make an announcement in a couple of weeks.

The office had projected the facility would open this month in the old Gray's IGA on Auburn Street. We're not sure if that means the project is delayed.

The facility is smaller than the old place, but drivers will still be able to renew their licenses and register to vote.
