Weather Interrupts Head of Rock Regatta

Weather interrupted the 27th Annual Head of the Rock Regatta on the Rock River late in the afternoon.

High winds forced organizers to pull boats out of the river after only 74 or the 115 races.

One parent traveled from Detroit to see his son row for the University of Michigan. He says bad weather is just a reality of the sport.

"Well, he'll be OK," said Robert Clemente. "You know, they're used to it. They've gotten races canceled before. But at least he got to race once, so that's better than not at all."

Eighteen hundred rowers from more than 65 clubs and universities competed in the event. The event was organized by Rockford YMCA's Rock River Valley Rowing Club.
