Water Division Imposter Enters Home of Rockford Resident

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Stateline residents need to be on alert for a possible water scam.

The city says a person posing as a Rockford Water Division employee entered a resident’s home on Rockford's southeast side. The person claimed they were there to test the water. After entering the home, the imposter said the customer was owed money and asked for change for a $100 bill. The person was not a City of Rockford employee, did not have a City ID, nor was he in a City uniform. There has only been one reported incident at this time.

The city says to be cautious when allowing people into your home. The Water Division will occasionally need to visit resident’s homes to check on water problems or look at the water meter. All Water Division employees will be in uniform and will carry a City of Rockford ID on them. They will also be driving a City of Rockford vehicle with decals on the side of the vehicle. If you see any suspicious behavior, please call 911. If you have any questions regarding water, please contact the Water Division at 815-961-3770.
