Walker, DOT Silent on Speed Limit Increase

MADISON (WIFR) -- Gov. Scott Walker and his Transportation secretary aren't saying anything yet about a proposal to increase the speed limit in Wisconsin to 70 mph.

Republican Rep. Paul Tittl of Manitowoc unveiled his proposal Tuesday and said he is confident it will pass the Legislature and be signed into law by the end of the year.

Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos has already voiced his support for the idea, but Tittl does not yet have a co-sponsor in the Senate.

Illinois became the 35th state on Monday to raise its speed limit to at least 70 mph. All of Wisconsin's other neighbors have 70 mph as their speed limit now.
