FREEPORT (WIFR) -- Freeport's downtown area was full of volunteers doing their best to keep their city clean.
The Freeport Downtown Development Foundation held its annual downtown spring cleanup and planting where they swept the streets of Freeport and planted hostas and marigolds.
Most of the volunteers were kids, members of local cubs, Boy and Girl Scout troops. Group leaders say they are trying to teach the next generation to take care of their city.
"It really gives them a sense of community and how important it is to volunteer but it's also just good for us to see them because it brightens the day," Danielle Rogers, a member of the Freeport Downtown Development Foundation, said.
The FDDF has been around for roughly 15 years.
