ROCKFORD (WIFR)- UPDATE: A local veteran who helped create the national VietNow organization was remembered by his family and friends.
Joe Falzone passed away last week in his home after battling with complications caused by agent orange for many years. On Wednesday friends and family stopped by Fitzgerald Funeral Home to pay their respect. Falzone and his war buddy Nick Parnello founded VietNow back in 1982 and now there are over 40 chapters across the country. The organization helps our former troops overcome post traumatic stress disorder.
ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Last night we lost a man who helped over 400 Veterans overcome Post Tramatic Stress Disorder after founding the national organization VietNow, 31 years ago.
Friends say they never met a man who was so more proud to serve their country.
Joe Falzone passed away last night in his home after battling with complications caused by agent orange for many years says Parnello.
The two met in VIetnam back in 1969 and years later founded VietNow.
Parnello says the organization helps vets deal with PTSD, an issue Parnello says him and Falzone saw too often.
Parnello says Falzone was so proud of being a veteran and serving his country.
"He liked to kid around a lot, he had a lot of fun kidding around. Believe it or not be could sing, he was a great little singer. A lot that we shared as far as the Vietnam experience."
VietNow was founded in 1982 and now there are over 40 chapters acorss the country.
