Veteran Center Receives $10,000 Home Depot Grant

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A local veteran center was in need of repairs, and has finally been renovated thanks to a $10,000 Home Depot Grant. Now the veteran center looks brand new.

Today was the grand unveiling from the Jefferson-Horton American Lesion Post 304 on Main Street in Rockford. Workers from Home Depot helped transform the 100 year old, dated building into a brighter and more updated veterans center. It now has new bathrooms and a new bar. Members say they wouldn't have been able to make the updates without the grant.

"They did a fantastic job because we had been wanting to get something done for quite some time. As a lot of places know we just didn't have the funds to do it," says lesion member George Blake.

Home Depot says this is one of ten renovations to various veteran centers they've done in Rockford in the last few months. The company says the upgrades cost over $50,000.
