ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A new partnership will help connect Stateline volunteers with new opportunities. United way just finished making some big improvements to their website www.wevolunteer.org. It's part of the 'Get Connected' program, where dozens of organizations can request volunteers and spread the word about upcoming events. Associated Bank announced today it will sponsor the site. Anna Kaye is the Volunteer Center Director of United Way. She says getting involved is as easy as the click of a button.
"The opportunities that are listed are very specific to what they are looking for. so a mother who maybe has some extra time on her hands can look through the site, she can click on her particular areas of interests and it'll filter the opportunities,” said Kaye.
There's more than 700 users already. Once you've volunteered, you can share your experiences through Facebook and Twitter.
As a way to increase awareness and use of the system, United Way of Rock River Valley also announced “United Way Get Connected Challenge” for students and adults. To enter, students and adults must register as a user of the site, become a “fan” of an agency and respond to an agency “need” by February 21, 2013. Four eligible students will receive a $500 scholarship and two eligible adults will receive a $1,000 donation to their agency of choice. The community wide challenge is made possible thanks to support from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois, Field Fastener, Barnes International, UAW Community Action Program and Jim and Pam Keeling. Official contest rules are listed on www.wevolunteer.org.
