USPS Welcomes Last Minute Tax Filers

STATELINE (WIFR) -- Quite a few area post offices are gearing up for a long night, as procrastinators continue to file in to mail off their tax forms.

We stopped by their location on Harrison this afternoon, where clerks will be on hand until seven o'clock tonight. They tell us one of the biggest problems each year is that people don't apply enough postage. And if there isn't enough postage? The IRS won't accept the envelope, even if it has an April 15th postdate.

"It's a lot of hassle to get all of the taxes done I think. Sometimes deadlines push people to get things done. That's kind of why we do it, just wait until the last day so we don't have to pay early,” said Mitch Olson.

The Harrison location will have staff members on hand until seven o'clock tonight, but you can use their automated postal center 24-7. Your only other option now that it's past five o'clock is the loves park branch on Windsor Road. They're also open 7:00 tonight.
