UPDATE: SwedishAmerican Gala Raises Nearly $174K for Regional Cancer Center

UPDATE: Cruise, the SwedishAmerican Foundation's annual fundraising gala, was a sell-out, with more than 500 supporters attending this year's event on March 1 at Giovanni’s.

The even raised nearly $174,000.

Proceeds of the event benefit the new SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center, which opened in October 2013. This marked the 20th anniversary of the gala and the third year in a row the gala sold out.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Tonight was the SwedishAmerican Foundation’s annual Spring Gala, Cruise.

Guests were decked out in island attire and listened to a steel drum band and the food also had a travel theme from countries all over the world including Sweden, Italy, Germany, Asia and the Caribbean.
All the money raised through ticket sales the silent auction and raffle goes to the new cancer center.

“Even though the facility opened in October it’s still an evolution in development, but I’ve got to tell you, things are going very well there. It’s been well received by the community, by the region, by patients who are being cared for there every day in ever-increasing numbers.”

This was the 20th year for the gala.
