ROCHELLE (WIFR) -- When we turn 80, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to sit down with family, eat some cake, open presents, but that doesn't appear to be enough for two women.
Lois Kettley and Suzanne Bernardi appear to be your typical 80 somethings.
They meet every week to talk, have some lunch and go shopping and one other thing, they occasionally like to jump out of airplanes.
"It was my idea and my friend got brave and she tried it," said Kettley. "So Su came along and now she likes it, I think."
The pair fell out of the sky from 14,000 feet Friday morning at Chicagoland Skydiving Center in Rochelle for Kettley's 83rd birthday.
The two twisted and turned through the sky for six minutes before coming in for a soft landing.
"Looking at the world from a different angle," Kettley said. "It's beautiful up there. There are no phones ringing. You have nothing to think about, but what you're doing and I like that."
Kettley and Bernardi have been close friends for more than half a century, but they unfortunately became even closer after the men in their lives passed away.
"[We became friends] before we were married," said Bernardi. "Our husbands died just a few months apart so we get together every Wednesday and go out and get lunch, shop and keep in touch. So it's been close to 60 years I think."
And at ages 83 and 82, these extreme athletes from Lee County have no plans to stop making the leap.
