DEKALB COUNTY  -- Two people are injured in a head on collision with a drunk driver who was trying to pass a semi truck .

DEKALB COUNTY (WIFR) -- Two people are injured in a head on collision with a drunk driver who was trying to pass a semi truck .

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office says 39 year old Corey Akers of DeKalb was attempting to pass a semi truck on Route 38 just east of Nelson Road around 11 p.m. Tuesday when he struck a pickup truck head on in the opposite lane. 18 year old Kyle Donohoe and his passenger, 41 year old Russel Donohoe were in the truck that was hit by Akers. Both cars sustained heavy damage but Akers was able to get out of his vehicle and flee from the scene.

Akers was later caught and arrested. Akers is charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, and passing in a no passing zone.

Both Kyle and Russel Donohoe were transported to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
