FREEPORT (WIFR) -- It was a busy morning for Freeport firefighters after two homes caught fire.
The latest happened around 6:30 this morning in the 1000 block of South Chicago Avenue. Crews say when they got to the scene they saw fire and smoke coming from the back of the building. It's believed the fire started in the basement, but the cause is still under investigation.
A few hours earlier, around 2:30 in the morning, a fire sparked in the 600 block of W. Galena Avenue. The fire was contained to just one unit in the apartment building. Crews were called back out to that fire after it rekindled. No one was injured in either fire.
