Two Local High School Seniors Each Receive $2K Scholarships

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who
provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help
build goodwill and peace in the world. The Rockford Downtown Rotary was chartered in
1916 and has 170 members.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Two seniors from Roosevelt Alternative High School received the 2014 Burdette Anderson Memorial Scholarship from Rockford Rotary at today’s High School Recognition presented by Rockford Rotary at Memorial Hall.

Daijon Sistrunk and Gariella Terronez each received a $2,000 college scholarship grant. Both students plan to attend Rock Valley College.

The scholarships were awarded by the daughters of Rotarian Burdette Anderson, Linda Oshita and Sue Vetrono.

In addition, the following students from ten area high schools were also recognized for their service:

Kathryn Gorzek and Broderick Hooker of Auburn High School

Kenzie Green and Andrew Hazen of Boylan Catholic High School

Kimberly SinThavong and Tristen Legaspi of East High School

Elizabeth Sharp and John "Alex" Sommer of Guilford High School

Karley Draheim and Jacob Hancock of Harlem High School

Gerardo Castillo and Ashley Schwitters of Jefferson High School

Annie McDowell and Kevin Hart of Keith High School

Sheridan Jones and Joseph Wild of Rockford Lutheran High School

Meggie Hall and Terrence Gulley of Rockford Christian High School

Daijon Sistrunk and Gabriella Terronez of Roosevelt High School
