Two Chicago-Area Men Suspects in Rockford Burglary

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Two Chicago-area men have been arrested in connected to a robbery Sunday at a Rockford restaurant.

Police say before 2 a.m. Sunday, a tamper alarm went off from a slot machines at Molly's Deli, 7451 E. State Street.

Officers saw two people inside who fled out the back door. Police pursued them into the parking lot of the Quality Suites Hotel, 7401 Walton Street. While running, the suspects left behind several tools, including a flashlight, hatchet, chisel and crowbar.

Both of the suspects were apprehended. One of them had a large amount of money.

While inspecting the business, police say the suspects got in through the drive-thru window. A safe and video poker machines were found pried open.

28-year-old Ismael Padin and 41-year-old Steve Mort were arrested. The Elmwood Park and Chicago men are being charged with burglary, criminal damage to property and possession of burglary tools. Padin is also charged with resisting a police officer.
