ROCKFORD (WIFR) – More proof the City of Rockford is taking graffiti seriously. Two men were arrested for allegedly trying to tag a community center.
Police say caught 23-year-old Kenneth Gilgan and 19-year-old Tyler Reich red handed, literally. Officers on patrol spotted them in an alley by the Baltic Lodge on Broadway. Both men apparently tried to get away but when they were caught, we’re told there was spray paint on their hands.
ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- On Wednesday, June 12, 2013 just before 4 a.m., two Rockford Police Officers observed two men standing in an alley in the 1300 block of Broadway. As the Officers approached the two, both of them fled on foot. The officers pursued both men, one of whom dropped a back pack. Both were captured after a brief foot chase.
Officers noticed that both subjects had fresh paint on their hands and the discarded duffel bag contained spray paint cans. A search of the area where the officers first saw the subjects revealed wet spray paint on the walls of the Baltic Lodge located in the 1500 Block of 9th Street. The color of the paint on the walls matched the color of the spray paint cans located in the duffel bag.
23-year-old Kenneth Gilgan and 19-year-old Tyler Reich, both of Rockford were each charged with Criminal Defacement to Property and Resisting a Police Officer.
Both subjects were arrested and lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.
